Queen’s University Belfast has launched a new podcast that explores insights and lessons from some of the world’s most significant political and socio-cultural issues - taking listeners on a fascinating journey across infamous conflict zones and peacebuilding initiatives.

The new eight-part series ‘Peace and Conflict – Understanding our World’, hosted by Professor Richard English, offers analysis and discussion on wide-ranging themes such as power, conflict, political violence and its legacy; from Afghanistan to Ireland, Colombia and South Africa.

Informed and authoritative, academics from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences (AHSS) at Queen’s share their experiences and reflections on how societies can transition from conflict to peace and how the traumatic political legacies of conflict can endure and continue to shape political discourse.

Drawing from a range of expertise the podcast includes discussion on how factors such as education and economics can impact conflict, why people join illegal organisations, the definition of `terrorism’ and the impact of marginalisation of women in peace building.

The podcast also documents the experiences of Queen’s academics working on the front-line in Afghanistan as well as those involved in helping shape education systems in conflicted societies globally and those who have been deeply involved in conflict related research.
