5.1. Assessment

Post placement assessment usually includes a reflective report and may also include a presentation.

Final reflective report

A reflective report describes the achievement of the learning outcomes by the student.  This should be based on the students learning as evidenced from their log book, pre-placement assignments, on placement assignments and any training or certificated achievements gained during placement.

Where another award such as the City and Guilds Licentiate is also being applied for, the assessment should normally support both the requirements of the award and the module learning outcomes i.e. students complete only one set of assessments.

Oral presentation

Student may also be required to give an oral presentation. This is an excellent opportunity to enhance their presentation skills and as most students are enthusiastic about their placement they normally perform well [See example assessment sheet]. A presentation also provides an opportunity to invite placement providers to the university in recognition of their important role in providing the placements.  It is also a valuable promotional activity for the degree programme, placements and graduates.
