Santander SME Internship Programme

Santander SME Pic

Queen's are proud to work in partnership with Santander Universities to offer a range of support for internships provided to our students and recent graduates by local SMEs. In it's fourth year, the partnership has assisted over 150 internships with local companies and organisations. Companies can be from any sector as long as they meet the SME criteria of having less than 250 employees and a turnover of less than £50m.

Participating companies can receive £150 per week for internships up to 10 weeks in duration as long as the student is paid at least £300 per week. To find out more contact our Employer Engagement Team or email internships@qub.ac.uk

'We've been delighted with the quality of Queen's students that have taken placements with GlowMetrics, found through the Santander SME internship programme and are delighted to have been able to create full-time opportunities for them.'

Joanne Casey, Managing Director, GlowMetrics

'The santander internship scheme provides a great way to identify potential hires, the 8-12 week period is long enough for the student to collaborate and contribute to a real-world project, providing the student with a deep insight into the nature of our work. From our perspective it is much more reliable than the classic recruitment process via interviews and tests. The support from Santander encourages us to create more summer internships than we might otherwise be able to.'

Gary Kennedy, Founder & COO, Clarus Financial Technology

'We had the benefit of securing a recent graduate (Anthony McKee) from Queen’s University for three months through the Santander SME Internship Programme.  During the three months Anthony was assigned to assist the organisation secure Investors in People (IiP) quality assurance.  It was our first time embarking on IiP and I can unequivocally state that we would not have secured it without Anthony‘s invaluable contribution and the support of the programme. As a charity we rely on government contracts to deliver frontline public services and IiP has significantly increased our standing with funders.  With a wealth of experience and expertise acquired during his internship, Anthony is now employed by USDT and thriving in his role.'
