More Information for Industry Mentors

The Student Mentoring Programme works with students who are typically under-represented in higher education to promote diversity in the workplace and to raise aspirations and achievement.

Mentors are will display empathy and support with our students during this programme.  We link Queen’s University undergraduates with industry professionals, who will mentor them over a six-month period.

Your role as a mentor

You are expected to:

  • be available to meet and maintain contact with your mentees
  • be aware of the limits of confidentiality
  • provide mentees with bespoke advice and support
  • be willing to answer questions or direct mentees to the most appropriate source of advice

Mentors are not counsellors, social workers, financial advisers or academic tutors. You are not expected to answer everything but you can support them with leadership, networking, communication, application and interview skills.
