Q-Step recognises that quantitative skills are important for many employers and the new degree BSc Sociology with Quantitative Methods aims to address the skills shortage in the social sciences. You can find out more about the background to the Q-Step programme here.
There are a number of ways for employers to get involved in Q-Step.
Q-Step Work Placements
We offer a number of work placements over the summer period for our Year 2 students. Students receive a Q-Step bursary for the duration of their 4-6 week placement. The aims of the placements are to draw upon the quantitative skills the student has gained over the course of their degree and apply these in a suitable work environment.

The School of Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work has an active and engaged Employers’ Forum, which is a panel composed of individuals of high ranking in organisations in fields directly relevant to our degree programmes, including G4S, the Police Service of Northern Ireland, Hastings Hotels, Craigavon District Council, and NI Community and Voluntary Association. The members of this panel advise staff in incorporating employability skills in the development of our degree programmes and in helping prepare our students for the world of work.
