The Queen's Q-Step Centre welcomed Year 12 and Year 13 students from across Northern Ireland last month, for a 3 day summer school held on QUB campus. The focus was on how to use and present quantitative data to explore important topics in the social sciences. Students got a taste of university life, with lectures and group work on a range of diverse topics, from policing to shared education. Working in small groups, students produced posters on a topic of their own choice.
Dr Cate McNamee, the summer school organiser, was really impressed with the quality of the posters and the enthusiasm and engagement of the participating students. The event ended with a poster display in the Student Common Room in the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work. Thanks to all the staff, PhD students and BSc Sociology with Quanitative Methods students who helped make this event a success! A special thank you also to to Kathryn Torney of The Detail, who also delivered a talk on the last day.
