Why study quantitative methods?
One way of understanding the social world is to count people, activities and events. Governments, commercial organisations, social media companies amongst others routinely collect vast amount of information on our spending patterns, lifestyle choices, health behaviours and other facets of our personal lives. Society is awash with such data and there is a need for social science graduates with the skills to make sense of this "big data".
Skills in quantitative data collection and analysis are an important part of training at undergraduate level in the BSc Sociology with Quantitative Methods.
