Estates Directorate Recruitment

Damien Toner Estates Director

Welcome from the Director of Estates, Damien Toner

As Director of Estates in Queen’s, I would like to thank you for showing an interest in working for the University.

Queen’s University is one of the leading institutions in the UK and Ireland. With an annual income of circa £400 million, over 25,000 students, 3,500 of them from 96 different countries and 4,300 staff, Queen’s plays a key role in Northern Ireland’s social and economic development, contributing £1.9 billion to the UK economy. We are proud of the positive impact we make locally, nationally, and internationally.

This is an exciting time to join Queen’s as we embark on the next phase of our development as a University. Our Strategy 2030, 'Delivering for our Future', sets out our ambition for the next 10 years to shape a better world through our life-changing education and research together with our role as a key partner in the Belfast Region City Deal (BRCD), an exciting, once in a generation opportunity to accelerate economic growth for the region.

To support our Strategy 2030 the Estates Directorate has developed an ambitious Estate Strategy and capital projects masterplan with a wide variety of new build, major refurbishment and estate re-organisation plans over the next 10 years including significant investment in Queen’s Sport, Computer Science, teaching space innovation and the expansion of the QUB Student Accommodation portfolio. The Estate Strategy also includes three significant major capital projects as part of the BRCD across manufacturing, digital innovation and clinical healthcare which are currently in the early stages of Design. These BRCD projects alone have a capital value of £200m.

The Estates Directorate is also responsible for developing the QUB pathway to net zero carbon and are expanding our Sustainability Team accordingly. See the full Estates Directorate structure here.

The next 10 years are going to be an incredibly busy and exciting time for the University and the Estates Directorate. There is a pipeline of exciting estates projects and opportunities, and we want to strengthen our team in the following areas:
