£200 of Amazon vouchers available in Christmas competition

Eight doors have been revealed so far in the Twelve Doors of Christmas competition.

Behind each door is a profile of a recent graduate showing how a Queen's degree has opened doors for them.

To be in with a chance of winning Amazon vouchers, all you have to do is identify the Queen’s doors pictured. An entry form will be available on the last day of Winter Graduation (Friday 13 December). To enter, simply list the door locations and submit the online form.

Prizes include one £100 Amazon voucher, one £50 Amazon voucher, and two £25 Amazon vouchers. Winners will be announced on Wednesday 18 December.  Click here to see the doors.

A Bite of Queen's tour of Riddel Hall

The next A Bite of Queen's event will be a festive lunchtime tour of Riddel Hall on Wednesday 18 December, 1.05-1.50pm. For further information, click here.

‌This year's Christmas Switch Off competition has been launched.

Switch off this Christmas and see how low you can go. You can win a prize for your School or Directorate by switching off as much electrical equipment as you can over the Christmas holiday period.

Porters' Toy Appeal

There is one week left to donate to this year's Porters' Toy Appeal.

Gifts can be left at the Christmas tree in the Administration Building or at a number of collection points throughout the campus. These include the porters' offices at the Ashby Building, Medical Biology Centre, Elms Village and at any of the Chaplaincy Offices on Elmwood Avenue. The appeal deadline is Monday 16 December.

Toys from this year’s appeal will be given to The Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul.

Queen's Outdoor Advertising Campaign

Queen’s is currently running an outdoor advertising campaign in various locations across Northern Ireland, key travel routes, mainland UK airports and Dublin Connolly bus station until mid-December. The campaign is appearing on billboards and bus stands, so keep an eye out for them when you are out and about or Christmas shopping.

Reduction in electricity consumption

Over the past quarter, Queen's has reduced its electricity consumption by over 2% when compared with the same period last year, resulting in a carbon saving of 96 tonnes and a financial saving of over £26,000.

Senior Managers have been issued with a breakdown for their individual areas.

Carol Service

The annual Christmas Carol Service will be held in the Great Hall on Sunday 15 December at 9.00pm.

Staff, students and their families and friends are all welcome to attend. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the Canada Room. Tickets are not required for this event. Admission will be on a first come, first served basis.

The Morpeth Roll in Belfast

The Morpeth Roll, a unique testimonial signed by over 160,000 people across Ireland in 1841, will visit the Naughton Gallery at Queen’s from 5 December to 26 January 2014. 

The Roll is a gigantic farewell presented to the popular Chief Secretary for Ireland, Lord Morpeth, when he left Dublin in 1841. It measures a staggering 420 metres in length and comprises hundreds of sheets of paper covered in signatures collected over five weeks, stuck together and wrapped around an enormous bobbin.

Institute for Collaborative Research in the Humanities: Winter School and Fellowship opportunities

Institute for Collaborative Research in the Humanities Winter School
Entitled Digital Environments: Working with Multi-Media in the Arts and Humanities, the winter school will run from 29-30 January 2014. Using digital arts and humanities expertise across Queen’s, and with partners at Newcastle and Durham universities, this winter school will provide opportunities for postgraduate students to experience hands-on new techniques and methods and learn how to tailor these to suit their own research interests and professional development.

2014-15 Institute Fellowship opportunities - closing date 7 January 2014
Applications are invited from colleagues at Queen's wishing to take up a Fellowship at the Institute for the 2014-15 academic year.  Those appointed will work closely with the Director, Professor John Thompson, to roll out a comprehensive collaborative research programme on the annual priority research theme: creativity in imagined and material worlds.  Further details on the priority research theme for 2014-15 and on the application procedures can be found here.
