A Bite of Queen's tour of Riddel hall

The first A Bite of Queen's campus tour of the new academic year will take place on Monday 23 September, 1.05pm-1.50pm in Riddel Hall. For further information on the tour, click here.

A Bite of Queen's is a staff initiative which gives you the opportunity to go behind the scenes of some of the University’s great buildings and hear about the amazing work being carried out by our colleagues who work in them.

Launch of the Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen's

The 2013 Ulster Bank Belfast Festival at Queen’s was officially launched last Thursday at the George Best Belfast City Airport. 

From 17 - 27 October over 70 different performances from all over the world will fill venues across Belfast as Ireland’s largest contemporary international arts festival takes off for its 51st year. Download a programme here.

Feeling arty? Got time to doodle? Then why not enter the Festival's ‘Design a Duck’ competition with Hastings Hotels – you could win tickets to #BelFest and a meal for two at The Europa Hotel. Like the page on Facebook to enter the competition.

A stunt so dangerous Houdini refused to attempt it, the Bullet Catch has claimed the lives of at least 12 people since its conception in 1613.  Enter the competition to win a pair of tickets for this event on 24 October at the Lyric Theatre, Belfast.

Open Days

Thousands of sixth form students will be at Queen's on Thursday 12 and Friday 13 September to take part in the University's Open Days.

Open Days are an opportunity for prospective students to find out as much as they can about the courses and facilities available at Queen’s, and get an insight into the student experience.

Open Learning Programme Autumn 2013/New Year 2014

The new Autumn 2013/New Year 2014 Open Learning programme of part-time short courses is now available.

From painting to public speaking, walking to wine appreciation, creative writing to céilí dancing, and astronomy to assertiveness, the Open Learning short, part-time day and evening courses offer everyone the chance to try something new and enjoy learning in a relaxed, friendly atmosphere.

Courses are available in a wide variety of subject areas including:

  • Philosophy
  • Visual Arts

Classes start the week commencing Monday 30 September.  Queen’s staff qualify for the concession rate where applicable.

New Delivered Hospitality Website

Accommodation and Hospitality launched the new Delivered Hospitality website on Monday 2 September 2013.

The online booking process is now more customer friendly and easier to use.  Along with catering partners, Hospitality have created a service guarantee to ensure a consistent standard of service across campus for catering and now offer a wider range of sandwich and lunch time options, as well as menus tailored to suit student events, at prices competitive with the high street.

Autumn Children’s Activity Programme 2013
All activities in the Children's Autumn Programme begin this week, except Trampoline Improvers which commences 18 September. The programme includes new activities for Toddlers and Babies, including Baby Yoga, Ballet, Little Scrummers plus favourites, including Splash ‘n’ Swim, Climbing, Basketball and Trampolining. Back 2 Basics Autumn Challenge - 12 Week Evening Programme at Queen’s Sport
Due to popular demand, Back 2 Basics returns with an evening course in Autumn 2013. A 12 week challenge aimed at beginner and intermediate trainers, Back 2 Basics concentrates on key principles of exercise and nutrition. The Evening Challenge, which begins on 16 September, is made up of four evening sessions (Mon-Thurs) each week, all commencing at 8.30pm.  Limited spaces are available. Numerical Modelling Meet-up Group

A meeting of Queen's Numerical Modelling Meet-up Group will take place on Thursday 31 October at 3.00pm. Venue to be confirmed.

The aim of the event is to promote collaboration between departments and researchers from different areas working on numerical modelling and increase knowledge transfer. Researchers are invited to give short presentations about their work, showcasing the wide range of numerical/simulation/computer related research in Queen's.
