A Book of Condolence to mark the contribution of former student, staff member and honorary graduate, Nobel Laureate Seamus Heaney, is now open at Queen's.

The Book of Condolence can be signed in the Welcome Centre, from 9.30am to 4.30pm, Monday to Friday.

New Delivered Hospitality website

Accommodation and Hospitality have launched a new Delivered Hospitality website. From Monday 2 September all new orders should be placed via the new system. 

A link for the new system and a user guide have been emailed to all existing users.  If you are not an existing user and would like the link and user guide emailed to you, please contact Sharon Haughey on 028 9097 4473 or sharon.haughey@qub.ac.uk

During the week 2 – 6 September 2013, the old system should only be used to edit any existing orders placed prior to 2 September 2013.  The old system will cease to operate from Monday 9 September. Existing bookings for Monday 9 September 2013 onwards will be copied from the old to the new system.

General Regulations

The University Calendar for Undergraduate Students 2013/14 and the University Calendar for Postgraduate Students 2013/14 are now available on the Academic Affairs website.

All academic staff, senior managers, School Managers and School Offices will receive printed copies of the Calendars within the next two weeks.  If you require additional copies please contact academic-affairs@qub.ac.uk.

The Calendars include the general regulations for undergraduate programmes, postgraduate taught programmes and postgraduate research programmes, together with University policies and procedures.

These regulations apply from 1 September 2013.

Car Free Fridays at Queen's

Friday 6 September sees the first Car Free Friday at the University. The aim of this initiative is to encourage more staff to leave the car at home and to travel to the University by public transport.

On the day, staff can enjoy 20% off your total bill at Molly’s Yard and 20% off the price of a regular staff ticket to QFT on presentation of a valid public transport ticket.

3rd QUART Conference: Evidence-based practice for participation and inclusion

The 3rd Annual Conference organised by the Queen's University Autism Research and Treatment (QUART) Forum, part of the Centre for Behaviour Analysis at Queen's, will take place on Friday 20 September. 

Keynote speakers will include Dr Lorri Unumb, Esq. (Autism Speaks, Vice President for Government Affairs, USA) and the STAMPPPII Launch Team from Italy, Iceland, Sweden, Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Norway and England for the launch of Simple Steps in new languages.

The speakers will demonstrate how behaviour interventions can be utilised to enhance participation and inclusion through effective methods.

RAE Armstrong Lecture Series

How you identify a gene, why some cancers are hereditary and the six big ethical questions that today's genetics pose, are just some of the topics that will be covered in this month's RAE Armstrong Public Lecture Series 2013.

Organised by the School of Biological Sciences, the lectures will be delivered by Professor Patrick J Morrison, Consultant in Genetic Medicine and Honorary Professor of Human Genetics at Queen's.

Autumn Children’s Activity Programme 2013
Enrolment is now open for Queen's Sport's Autumn Activity Programme which features new activities for Toddlers and Babies, including Baby Yoga, Ballet, Little Scrummers plus many more. Favourites including Splash ‘n’ Swim, Climbing, Basketball and Trampolining are also included. For more details on the new courses click here

Back 2 Basics Autumn Challenge - 12 Week Evening Programme at Queen’s Sport
Due to popular demand, Back 2 Basics returns with an evening course in Autumn 2013. A 12 week challenge aimed at beginner and intermediate trainers, Back 2 Basics concentrates on key principles of exercise and nutrition. The Evening Challenge, which begins on 16 September, is made up of four evening sessions (Mon-Thurs) each week, all commencing at 8.30pm.  Limited spaces are available. Children's Climbing Taster Sessions
Queen's Sport will host a series of Come and Try climbing classes for children aged 6-16 years on Saturday 7 September, 10.00am - 11.00am, 11.00am - 12.00pm, 12.30pm - 1.30pm,  or 1.30pm - 2.30pm. Sessions cost £5 per child.

Secretarial Skills Programme 2013/14
Applications are invited for the Junior and Senior Secretarial Skills Programmes 2013/14. 

The Junior Secretarial Skills Programme is designed for secretarial staff in grades 2 and 3 and helps staff gain the knowledge, skills and confidence to provide a professional secretarial service to teams or managers. 

The Senior Secretarial Skills Programme is for secretarial staff in grades 4 and above. Junior staff who have previously completed the Junior Secretarial Skills Programme or staff who have been with Queen’s for 10 years, can also be considered for the Senior Secretarial Skills Programme. The aim of this course is to assist experienced secretarial staff gain further knowledge, skills and confidence to provide a professional secretarial service to senior managers.
