HR Directorate achieves IiP Silver accreditation

Following a recent reassessment for Investors in People (IiP), the Human Resources Directorate has been awarded IiP Silver accreditation. This is a significant improvement from their original accreditation in 2012.

IiP is a nationally recognised framework that helps organisations to improve their performance and realise their objectives through the effective management and development of their people. Fewer than 10% of IiP accredited organisations have achieved the silver award.

Christmas Twitter Takeover with Queen's Chef Peter Scobie

Peter Scobie Twitter TakeoverAs Christmas approaches, Queen’s Deputy Chef Peter Scobie will take over Queen’s Staff Twitter account – @QUBstaff – to host a special live chat on Monday 21 December 2015, 1.00pm – 2.00pm, offering tips and advice on festive baking and cooking and answering all of your culinary questions.

If you would like Peter’s professional advice on any cookery-related issue, just join in the conversation on Monday. Alternatively, you can tweet your questions in advance of the live chat to @QUBstaff or email them to (please include your Twitter handle in your email if you have one) and Peter will answer them during the event.

Christmas Switch Off

Christmas Switch Off 2015This year's Christmas Switch Off competition has been launched to see how lo' you can go this Christmas. A prize will be awarded to the School or Directorate that manages to switch off and reduce its energy consumption the most on Christmas Day.

As part of the countdown to the Switch Off, there are a number of themed challenges to help you get in the festive mood. All you have to do is submit your photographs and videos to be in with the chance of winning a spot prize. If you are a little camera shy, make use of the naughty or nice elf masks and get‌ involved.

Porters' Christmas Toy Appeal

Staff have until Friday 18 December 2015 to leave gifts as part of the Porters' Christmas Toy Appeal.

Gifts can be left at the Christmas tree in the Administration Building or at a number of collection points throughout the campus. These include the porters' offices at the Ashby Building, Medical Biology Centre, Elms Village and at any of the Chaplaincy Offices on Elmwood Avenue.

If you cannot make it to one of the collection points, but would still like to donate a gift, contact

Toys from this year’s appeal will be given to The Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul.

Horizon 2020 – Support Mechanisms Review

A survey has been launched to review Horizon 2020 support provided across Northern Ireland (including the support provided by Queen’s EU team).

You can access this survey here.

The questionnaire seeks to gauge awareness of key support measures and to collect views on the effectiveness of these mechanisms. Please be aware that the NICP means EU advisor within Queen’s.

The survey will remain open until Friday 18 December 2015.

Annual Information Services Coffee Morning

Annual Information Service Coffee Morning 3 Dec 2015‌This year's Annual Information Services Coffee Morning, held on Thursday 3 December in the Great Hall, raised approximately £5,355.00 for Macmillan Cancer Support.

Information Services are grateful to staff throughout the University for their help and support and for making this such a successful event.

Inaugural lecture by Professor Noemi Lois

The School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Sciences invites you to the inaugural lecture by Professor Noemi Lois. Queen's Sport

Queen's Sport 141215Children's Activity Programme – Winter 2016
Enrolment for courses on the Queen's Sport Children's Activity Programme is now open. The programme includes Gymnastics, Basketball, Ballet and Swimming, as well as a number of new courses such as Basketball Fundamentals for children aged 3  4 years old, Baby Ballet Improvers, and Junior and Senior Taekwondo.

Enrolment for the Splash 'n' Swim programme opens on Wednesday 6 January 2016.

All courses begin the week commencing 18 January 2016 and courses are available to both members and non-members. Find out more.

Back 2 Basics
Enrolment is now open for the 'Back to Basics' programme which is back for 2016. The programme is for beginner and intermediate trainers, with each course focusing on fitness fundamentals such as exercise and nutrition. Sessions include Kettlebell and Barbell Workshops, Fitness Testing, Programme Design Workshop and much more.

Teaching Awards 2016

A briefing session on the Queen's Teaching Awards Scheme will be held on Tuesday 19 January 2016, 1.00pm – 2.00pm, in Conference Room 2, Student Guidance Centre.  A sandwich lunch will be provided.

The aims of the briefing session are:

  • To provide information on the Teaching Awards application process
  • To encourage colleagues to apply for an Award
  • To provide guidance on the type of information that might be included in an application
