Payments Office Arrangements for July 2015

Staff should note the following Payments Office arrangements over the July holiday period (13 and 14 July) for paying correctly authorised Supplier Invoices, Request for Payment Forms and Staff Expenses Claims:

  • Invoices received on or before Wednesday 24 June 2015 and Requests for Payment and Staff Expenses Claims received before 12.00pm on Thursday 25 June 2015 will be paid week-ending 3 July 2015.
  • Invoices, Requests for Payment and Staff Expenses Claims received before 12.00pm on Wednesday 1 July 2015 will be paid on Friday 10 July 2015.
  • Invoices, Request for Payments and Staff Expenses Claims received on or before Monday 6 July 2015 will be paid week-ending 17 July 2015.
  • Invoices, Request for Payments and Staff Expenses Claims received on or before Wednesday 15 July 2015 will be paid week-ending 24 July 2015.
  • Normal payment arrangements will apply for all payment requests received week-commencing 20 July 2015.

Invoicing Arrangements for Financial Year End 31 July 2015

To facilitate the year end process, please note the following arrangements for raising invoices to customers for activities carried out prior to 31 July 2015.

Up to 27 July 2015
As far as possible all invoices and invoice requisitions relating to activities completed, or due to be completed, prior to 31 July 2015 should be forwarded to the OSR section of Finance on or before 27 July 2015 to ensure full inclusion in the 2014-15 year end accounts.

After 27 July 2015
Invoices and invoice requisitions forwarded after 27 July 2015, but relating to the 2014-15 year (i.e. period up to 31 July 2015), should be clearly marked as relating to 2014-15. These invoices will be processed in August 2015 and, where material, manual adjustments will be made by the OSR section of Finance to the 2014-15 accounts.  All invoices relating to the 2014-15 year must be received by Friday 14 August 2015 to ensure inclusion in the 2014-15 year end accounts.

Rosetta mission scientist to deliver free public lecture

Comet Image from RosettaMonica Grady CBE, Professor of Planetary and Space Science at the Open University and a leading scientist in the Rosetta mission, will deliver the Royal Irish Academy 2015 McCrea Lecture on Friday 26 June at 7.00pm in the Larmor Lecture Theatre.

The lecture will include a detailed account of the Rosetta mission to date, along with a more general insight into comets and why some people think they may hold the key to how life originated on Earth.

Wellbeing Event: Dietary Guidelines for a Healthy Diet

Staff Wellbeing have organised an information session to provide staff with helpful information on Dietary Guidelines for a Healthy Diet.

The session will be delivered by Dr Ciara Rooney from the Centre for Public Health on Tuesday 30 June, 1.00pm – 2.00pm, location TBC.  Lunch will be provided. The talk will give an overview of what a healthy diet is in line with current dietary guidelines, as well as practical tips to help you achieve a healthier diet.

School of Education Open Day

The School of Education will host an Open Day on Tuesday 23 June to give you the chance to find out about its range of short courses and part-time postgraduate degree programmes* starting in September 2015.

The event runs from 4.00pm - 5.30pm in 20 College Green. Further details are available on the School website. Please fill in the online RSVP Form.

Book Swap: Thursday 25 June

Book SwapA Book Swap for staff will take place on Thursday 25 June in the McClay Library, 12.00pm - 2.00pm.

If you would like to donate any of your used books, drop them into the marked donation box by the McClay borrower’s desk any time from Monday 22 - Wednesday 24 June. You can also bring books along with you on the day.

CED's Annual Conference

The Centre for Educational Development's Annual Conference, Blending the Learning: incorporating technology in your teaching, takes place this Thursday, 25 June in the Canada Room and Council Chamber.

The keynote speakers are:

  • Professor Mark Brown, Director of the National Institute for Digital Learning based at Dublin City University on The Digital Learning Revolution: Godsend or Gimmick?
  • Russell Stannard, Principal Teaching Fellow, University of Warwick on A real example of the Flipped Classroom

Open House Belfast - Architecture Festival

Open House FestivalQueen’s is taking part in the inaugural Open House Belfast - Architecture Festival (17-19 July) which will give the public the opportunity to experience some of the city’s most interesting and exciting buildings.

The following University buildings are included in the programme:

  • Lanyon Building and the Graduate School
  • Ashby and David Keir
  • Riddel Hall
  • McClay Library
  • Centre for Experimental Medicine/CCRCB

Financial Assistance for Staff – Part-Time Courses

The deadline for submitting applications for financial assistance for part-time training courses is Friday 31 July 2015. Applications received after this date may be supported depending on available budget.

Marie Curie Charity Raffle and Coffee Morning

FacilitaytorsQueen's Management School will host a Mr Tayto and Miss Daffy’s Tea Party/ Coffee Morning including Raffle Draw in aid of Marie Curie on Tuesday 30 June in Lanyon North, Room 0G.074. All staff are invited to attend.

Raffle tickets are currently on sale in the Management School (028 9097 5500/ 5478).  Buy a ticket for only £1 and support Marie Curie in providing care and support to terminally ill people and their families.

Volunteers wanted for study on decision-making

Decision making iconThe School of Psychology is looking for 14- and 15-year-olds and adults (25 years and older) to participate in a study looking at decision making. Taking part would involve completing a short computer game (approximately 15 minutes).  All participants will receive an Amazon voucher worth between £4.50 and £5.50.

Queen's Sport

Queen's Sport Summer Membership 2015Two Month Summer Membership
Queen's Sport is offering a two-month membership for only £66. The all-inclusive peak membership includes access to three gyms, two pools, 70+ classes, racquet sports and climbing wall.  Staff can take out membership in June and receive the remainder of the month free. The annual Blues Sports Awards, which highlight and reward the sporting achievements of Queen’s students and club members who have contributed to successes both on and off the playing surface, have taken place.

MR. HOLMES (PG) - Ian McKellen plays the man behind the myth in this new twist on the world’s most famous detective.

LES COMBATTANTS (15) - An acerbic take on coming of age romance, French style. This expertly written gem is part screwball, part rom-com and wholly enjoyable.

LONDON ROAD (15) - With an ensemble cast that includes Olivia Colman, Kate Fleetwood, Anita Dobson and Tom Hardy, London Road is a musical film based in the ground-breaking National Theatre production. It documents the events that shook Suffolk in 2006, when the quiet rural town of Ipswich was shattered by the discovery of the bodies of five women.
