Christmas and New Year Payment Arrangements 2015

Staff should note the following Payments Office arrangements over the Christmas and New Year period for paying correctly authorised and registered Supplier Invoices, Request for Payment Forms and Staff Expenses Claims:

  • Invoices received by 5.00pm on Wednesday 2 December 2015 and Requests for Payment and Staff Expenses Claims received by 12.00pm noon on Thursday 3 December 2015 will be paid week-ending 11 December 2015.
  • Invoices received by 5.00pm on Wednesday 9 December 2015 and Requests for Payment and Staff Expenses Claims received by 12.00pm noon on Thursday 10 December 2015 will be paid week-ending 18 December, 2015.
  • Invoices, Requests for Payment, and Staff Expenses Claims received by 5.00pm on Monday 14 December 2015 will on paid on 22 December 2015.
  • Normal payment arrangements will apply for all payment requests received week commencing 4 January 2016.

While the Payments Office will make every effort to comply with this timetable, due to the volumes of payment requests received at this time of the year, and to ensure payment before the holiday, staff are requested to process all such transactions well in advance of these deadlines.

Queen’s University Belfast/Santander Mobility Scholarships 2015-16

Santander Scholarships 2015The University is pleased to announce the launch of this year’s scholarships funded by Santander UK, with the assistance of Grupo Santander to support scholarship and mobility in the context of exchanges between Queen's and universities within the Santander Universidades Network in UK, Europe and overseas.

Queen’s is proud to be a member of the prestigious international Santander Universities network, which brings together almost 1,000 universities, including institutions in Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the UK.

This strategic partnership between Queen’s and Santander has created opportunities for both staff and students to participate in a range of activities and to encourage exchange and interaction between members of the University and other member universities of the Santander Universities Network. Horizon 2020 – Support Mechanisms Review

A survey has been launched to review Horizon 2020 support provided across Northern Ireland (including the support provided by Queen’s EU team).

The questionnaire seeks to gauge awareness of key support measures, and to collect views on the appropriateness and effectiveness of these mechanisms.

Please be aware that NICP (Northern Ireland Contact Point) refers to EU advisor within Queen’s.

Charity Clothes Collection

Cancer Research UK logoAs part of European Week for Waste Reduction, a charity clothes collection will take place across the University from Wednesday 25 to Friday 27 November 2015.  The clothes will be donated to Cancer Research UK.  Each bag that you donate could be worth £30, which goes directly to supporting Cancer Research UK's ground breaking work.

Staff Wellbeing: Alcohol and Drug Awareness Session

Staff Wellbeing have organised an alcohol and drug awareness session on Wednesday 25 November 2015, from 1.00pm – 2.00pm, location TBC. Lunch will be provided for attendees.

This is not an anti-alcohol campaign but a fun, practical information session which will provide information to enhance health and wellbeing.

Institute of Spatial and Environmental Planning (ISEP) Seminar Series

The ISEP seminar series continues with Koen Salemink, a PhD researcher at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, University of Groningen. He is writing his thesis on how remote rural areas and marginalized groups manage to participate in the digital information society. His post is partly funded by the EU Interreg IVB project ITRACT. He previously worked in social housing as a policy advisor and as an advisor to the Dutch Ministry of Interior for Gypsy-Traveller affairs.

Keon will present on "Rural broadband initiatives in the Netherlands: the interplay – or power imbalance – between market, government and community" on Wednesday 2 December 2015, 1.00pm – 2.00pm, in Seminar Room, DKB.03.005, David Keir Building. A sandwich lunch will be provided.

Welcome Centre

Christmas Wreath 23.11.2015This year the Welcome Centre will hold its first ever annual Christmas Craft Fair. The event will take place on Thursday 3 December from 8.30am – 5.30pm.

The Christmas Craft Fair will see the cloisters transformed with stallholders showcasing the very best of craft and local produce. All are welcome to drop by to sample mulled wine and enjoy festive treats, as well as an additional 20% off everything in store!

GUEROS: Three restless teens search for folk-rocker Epigmenio Cruz on the streets of Mexico City during the student strikes of 1999.

HAND GESTURES: This documentary follows the process of creating one of artist Vitali's famous dog sculptures, from wax to glazed bronze, revealing techniques unchanged since Sixth century BC. The Monday 23 November screening will be followed by a Q&A with director Francesco Clerici.

French Film Festival: MY KING: A couple locked in a roller-coaster relationship are at the heart of this drama which is full of arguments, food, sex and laughs. Thursday 26 November, 8.35pm.

LOVE at QFT: BRIEF ENCOUNTERS: Turbulent passion and middle-class restraint combine when a married woman (Celia Johnson) falls for a doctor (Trevor Howard) she meets at a railway station.
