EEECS and ECIT awarded Silver Investors in People Accreditation

Annual Information Services Coffee Morning

The Annual Information Services Coffee Morning will take place on Wednesday 14 December at 10.00am in the Great Hall. Proceeds from the event will go to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Raffle tickets are available to buy in advance: contact a member of the organising team and they will forward some to your School or Directorate. Tickets cost £1 each or six for £5. Ticket sales on the day will close at 11.15am sharp to enable prizes to be drawn.

Prizes include:

  • iPad, Kindle, Laptop;
  • Restaurant vouchers (Deane’s at Queens, Cutter’s Wharf, Tedfords, Holohan’s and others);
  • Overnight stay for two at the Hilton Hotel, overnight stay for two at Tara Lodge

Welcome Centre Christmas craft fair

Welcome Centre Craft FairThe Welcome Centre Christmas craft fair will take place on Wednesday 14 December, 10.00am - 4.00pm. Local crafters will be in the Cloisters selling local hand-made products. Exhibitors include upcycled and recycled products. 

All staff are encouraged to attend for free mulled wine and shortbread, as well as 20% off all stock in store.

Campus Food Market

QUB Campus Food Market 14 Dec 2016The next Campus Food Market will take place on Wednesday 14 December, 11.00am – 3.00pm, outside the Lanyon Building. The market is in conjunction with The Welcome Centre Christmas Craft Fair and brings together a fantastic selection of hot food stalls showcasing Northern Irish produce and foods from around the world including Boojum; Tapitas; Linen Hill Kitchen and Deli; The Crepe Maker; Burger Republic; Sarah’s World Fare; and Oui Poutine.

Porters' Toy Appeal

Queen's Porters are now collecting for their Annual Toy Appeal.

Gifts can be left at the Christmas tree in the Administration Building or at a number of collection points throughout the campus. These include the porters' offices at the Ashby Building, Medical Biology Centre, Elms Village and at any of the Chaplaincy Offices on Elmwood Avenue.

If you cannot make it to one of the collection points, but would still like to donate a gift, contact porters@qub.ac.uk.

Toys from this year’s appeal will be given to The Salvation Army and St Vincent de Paul. The deadline for dropping off toys is Friday 16 December.

First Live Performance of the Queen's Wednesday Choir

The First Live Performance of the Queen's Wednesday Choir will take place on Wednesday 14 December at 1.15pm in the Great Hall. The event is open to friends and family of the choir members and staff.

All guests must register to attend via Eventbrite, please note that spaces are limited and will be allocated on a first come first served basis. Each attendee is invited to make a minimum donation of £3 to our nominated charity, Queen’s University Foundation, towards MS research via Just Giving.

Global Challenge Networking Programme: ‘Productivity’ Research Event

Global Networking EventAs part of the Global Challenge Networking Programme, a ‘Productivity’ research event will take place on Wednesday 14 December, 11.00am – 2.30pm, in the Canada Room and Council Chamber, Lanyon Building. Professor James McElnay, Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Research, Enterprise and Postgraduate Affairs will host a discussion session, which includes a networking lunch, to scope out potential connections and areas of shared interest between people working in different fields.

Elms Treehouse Charity Coffee and Cake Morning

‌The ‌Elms Village Charity Coffee and Cake Morning which took place on Wednesday 30 November raised £1,350 in total. £450 is going to each of three charities: National Autistic Society NI, Aware NI, and The Welcome Organisation. Three full boxes of donated items were also collected for the homeless.

Queen's Library Christmas Jumper Day

The Library will celebrate Christmas in style this year with a Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 16 December.  

To join in, wear your best (or worst!) Christmas jumper on the day and post a selfie or group photo with the hashtag #ChristmasJumperQUB.  An amazon voucher will be awarded for the best effort.

All Queen's Library branches are involved, so keep an eye out for library staff in a fetching array of seasonal sweaters!

EPSRC have launched their science photo competition and are looking for images that demonstrate research in action.

Open to all EPSRC-supported researchers and EPSRC-supported doctoral students, the closing date is Friday 16 December.  More details are available on the 2016 Photo Competition page.

Winter Physical Activity Programme

The 2017 Winter Activity programme, organised by Staff Wellbeing and Queen's Sport, begins week commencing Monday 9 January 2017.

For course registration, please visit the PEC reception.  Each 13 week course costs £27, and will run to week beginning 3 April 2017. Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis.

Queen’s is a member of the international Santander Universities network, which brings together over 1,200 universities across the world, including Spain, Portugal, Latin America and the UK.

This strategic partnership has created opportunities for both staff and students to participate in a range of activities and to encourage exchange and interaction between members of the University and other member universities of the Santander Universities Network.

Queen's Sport will host the Northern Ireland Chest Heart and Stroke Spinathon on Friday 16 December, 11.45am - 6.45pm, in studio 2 at the PEC.

Members' Christmas Coffee Morning
Staff are invited to come down to the PEC on Friday 16 December in their best or funniest Christmas jumper and join the festivities at the Members' Coffee morning. With plenty of mince pies and festive cheer to be had, the morning will be hosted in Clements at the PEC and start at 10.30am.

Naughton Gallery

Naughton Gallery 121216Stop Lookin’ at Photographs! (Continues until 29 January)
Stop Lookin’ At Photographs! comprises a series of small-scale assemblages from recent years by Derry-based artist Locky Morris.  Featuring a range of new and unseen work, the exhibition focuses, in part, on an almost obsessive interplay of the photographic image within his practice. The Book Club
The Naughton Gallery launches The Book Club in January 2017, an informal reading group discussing a selection of books which link thematically to the Gallery’s exhibition programme. Contact Rachel art@qub.ac.uk to register interest.

Roger, Roger
The Naughton Gallery presents Roger, Roger, a discussion and screening event with artists Fionnuala Doran and Alan Phelan on Sunday 18 December,  4.00pm - 6.00pm, in the Great Hall.  Marking 100 years since the death of controversial Irish figure Roger Casement, both Doran and Phelan have been inspired by his life and legacy. Further details available on the Facebook event page.

Hijack Christmas Movie Quiz – Wednesday 14 December, 9.00pm. Whether you're spending Christmas in Connecticut, St. Louis or you're Lost in New York, hop on The Polar Express and Jingle All The Way down to the QFT Christmas Quiz! Maximum five players per team. The quiz will take place in the QFT foyer. This event is free, but a ticket per team member is required.

In The Heat of the Night (12A) – In the Heat of the Night is a taut culture clash thriller that first hit cinemas in the midst of the Civil Rights Movement. This film remains strikingly relevant.

Queen's Teaching Awards Scheme 2017

The Queen's Teaching Awards Scheme 2017 is now open. Up to ten Teaching Awards are available and a prize of £1000 will be awarded to each successful individual or team, paid into a dedicated School account for professional development purposes.  The closing date for receipt of applications is 5 pm on Monday 13 March.
