Research Data Management and Open Research Data

Open access to research data is a rapidly developing area of research policy. Most major funders now require that researchers complete Data Management Plans at the outset of research projects, provide open access to data underpinning published research findings, and retain relevant data for minimum periods of up to 10 years following a project. Certain funders have begun monitoring compliance with these policies and a UK Concordat on Open Research Data was published in July 2016.

A series of information and training sessions have been planned for researchers through the next semester, which are detailed below. If you are interested in attending any of these sessions, please RSVP to

  • Wednesday 5 October: Introduction to Research Data Management and Open Research Data, 2.00pm, McClay Library, Training Room 20
  • Wednesday 26 October: Developing Data Management Plans, 2.00pm, Seminar Room, Research & Enterprise
  • Thursday 3 November: Introduction to Research Data Management and Open Research Data, 3.00pm, Whitla Medical Building, Seminar Room 10
  • Wednesday 7 December: Introduction to Research Data Management and Open Research Data, 3.00pm, David Keir Building, 0G.336
