Improved Turbocharger Performance



Due to increasingly stringent regulations on greenhouse gas emissions the automotive industry has been forced to come up with ways in which to improve the efficiency of their engines and thus reduce the amount of harmful gasses released into the atmosphere. Conventionally the inlet blade angle of a radial turbine is almost invariably fixed in the radial direction to avoid imposing additional bending stresses at the blade tips. However, by changing the inlet blade angle of a radial turbine it is possible to increase the efficiency characteristic of an automotive turbocharger. This novel approach to the design of a radial turbine will improve engine response time, increase fuel efficiency and provide a reduction in the amount of exhaust gases produced.
