Travelling to Queen's

The University is located about one mile from Belfast city centre and is easily accessible by bus, train or on foot (20 minute walk).  Belfast also has two airports and there are sea crossings from both England and Scotland.

By Air

George Best City Airport is three miles from the city centre. A regular Airbus service operates into the city centre. The Airport Express 600 operates every 40 minutes on Sundays (every 20 minutes on weekdays) from outside the George Best Belfast City Airport to the Great Victoria Bus Centre, in the heart of the city. The service, Airport Express 600, operates between 0700 and 2203 on Sunday, and costs £2.00 single and £3.00 return.


Journey time from the George Best Belfast City airport to the Great Victoria street bus station is approximately 20 minutes.  

The Belfast International Airport at Aldergrove is a 30 minute drive to Belfast City Centre via the M2 motorway. The Airport Express 300 operates a 24 hour service between the airport and Belfast with buses departing every 30 minutes on Sundays (every 15 minutes on weekdays). The bus leaves from the bus stop located opposite the terminal exit.


The journey from the International Airport to the Great Victoria Street Bus Station, takes approximately 30-40 minutes, subject to traffic conditions, and costs £7.00 single and £10.00 return.


Dublin Airport is approximately 160 kilometers (100 miles) from Queen’s University Belfast. A regular bus service to Belfast operates 24 hours a day directly from Dublin Airport. An up-to-date bus timetable is available from the Northern Ireland Railways website and travel time is 1 hr 40 minutes.

By Sea

A selection of routes and ferry operators are available. Belfast is most easily reached from the following ports:

  • Belfast Port is located 1.5 km from the city centre and can be reached by bus, taxi or on foot.
  • Larne lies 32 km east of Belfast, with bus and rail connections.
  • Dublin is over 160 km south of Belfast but well connected by rail and bus services.

By Rail

The main rail stations in the city centre are Great Victoria Street and Central Station. Cross-border ‘Enterprise’ services depart from and arrive at Central Station. The closest station to the University is Botanic which is a 5 minute walk from the main campus. The Irish Rail service takes just over 2 hours to commute between Dublin Connolly Station and Belfast Central Station. This service operates a number of times a day.

By Bus

Ulsterbus services operate throughout Northern Ireland. Services arrive and depart at the Europa Buscentre and Laganside Buscentre. Travelling time from Dublin to Belfast is approximately 2 hours by bus. Bus Eireann operates the number 200 service from Dublin to the Europa Bus Station Belfast every hour 24 hours a day. This service departs from Busarus Station in Dublin city centre and has a pick-up point at Dublin Airport.

Travelling by bus from city centre hotels to Queen’s UniversityBelfast

Delegates can avail of the Translink Metro bus service that operates from Belfast City Hall with services every 10-15 minutes to Queen’s University Belfast (on a number 8 Metro route). Your hotel accommodation providers will be more than happy to provide further details.

By Taxi

There are several private 24-hour hire taxi firms in Belfast and also some black taxi ranks. Value Cabs: +44 28 9080 9080 and Fonacab: +44 28 9023 3333. In general it is best to call a taxi rather than to try to flag down a black taxi.


By Car

The M1 Motorway connects Dublin and Belfast. Travel time by car is approximately 2 hours between the two cities


From the M1

Exit the M1 at Junction 2 and take the second exit onto Stockman’s Lane. Continue on the A55 (Stockman’s Lane). As you pass under the A1, the A55 becomes Balmoral Avenue. Continue on Balmoral Avenue until you reach the A55 B23 Junction (Malone Road). Turn left onto the B23 (Malone Road). After approximately 200yds turn right onto Stranmillis Road. At the roundabout, take the second exit (Stranmillis Road). Take the next left and then follow the road to Riddel Hall.


From Belfast City Centre

Exit the A1 (Bradbury Place) onto the B23 (University Road). After approximately 100 yds turn left onto Stranmillis Road. Continue on Stranmillis Road. Take the 6th turn on your right and then follow the road to Riddel Hall.

By Foot

Only 30 minutes from Belfast city centre Queen’s University Riddel Hall is easily accessible by foot.
