Applying For Your Student Visa From Outside The UK

Applying For Your Student Visa

From Outside The UK

When you apply for your visa you will need to include a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) number. You will be provided with this by Queen's University once you have accepted an unconditional offer for your course. We will send you a document called a 'CAS Statement'. The CAS Statement will include all the important information about your CAS and your programme of study.

It will also tell you the date you must be at Queen's and you should plan to apply for your visa in order to arrive on time! You will not be able to apply any earlier than six months before your start date at Queen's. Please make sure you prepare your application and documents in sufficient time to apply for your visa.

Applying for Entry Clearance Under the Student Route

Details of the application and guidance notes for this are found on the UK Visas & Immigration website. In particular you should ensure that you have read carefully the Student visa guidance.

Documents you will need to prepare

You can find information about the documents you will need to prepare for your visa application on the UKVI website and in the UKVI Student visa guidance document. Please note that the rules surrounding student immigration to the UK change frequently, so you are advised to check the current UKVI guidance before applying. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate documents in place and that they meet the UKVI requirements before submitting your application.

UKVI Differentiation Arrangements

UKVI operates differentiation arrangements for applicants of certain “low-risk” nationalities to allow them to apply in their home country for their visa using fewer evidential documents. These ‘low risk’ countries are listed in Appendix ST 22.1 . If you are a national of one of these countries or territories, you will not submit evidence of your academic entry qualifications or evidence of your finances to UKVI. However, you must still ensure that you have these documents in place, as UKVI may request them from you at any time during the application process. If UKVI request these documents and you are unable to provide them, or if they do not meet the requirements, it is likely that your visa will be refused. You are also advised to carry evidence of your qualifications and finances in your hand luggage in case you are questioned at UK immigration control. In addition, when you arrive in the UK, all new students will be required to produce their original entry qualifications in order to complete enrolment and registration at Queen’s University. Therefore you must remember to bring these documents with you to the UK.
