Participants' Information

Internet at the conference venue will be available in Computer Suite 1, which is located in the basement of the School of Music. Delegates who require internet access in their rooms at Queen's Elms will be provided with cables at check-in.

We regret that, due to a large number of delegates, we will not be able to offer printing and photocopying facilities at the conference venue, but those may be accessed at the McClay Library, which is just opposite the School of Music. For information on how to access the Library, please see below.

If you intend to distribute handouts, we would kindly ask you to come prepared. We are expecting an upper limit of around 70 delegates and, although it is very difficult to estimate how the audience will distribute themselves into the two parallel sessions, we recommend that you prepare at least 25 copies.

Internet, printing and photocopying facilities at the McClay Library

To access the McClay Library, please inform the staff at reception that you are attending a conference at Queen’s. You will then be issued with a day pass. Photocopying cards can be purchased from a machine in the Short Loan collection photocopying rooms (please enquire at the Borrower Services Desk about this). The cards cost £2.00 and come with 70p credit. The cards can be topped up and last indefinitely. Photocopying services at the library are charged at 5p per A4 page.

For access to Internet and printing facilities, please enquire at the Borrower Services Desk on the ground floor or at the Humanities/Special Collections enquiry desk on Floor 1. You will be issued with a temporary account for which you can buy print credit. Please note that the account lasts only for one day and all credit must be used or it will expire.

IT and Sound equipment


Every room is equipped with a PC (with Internet access), powerpoint and overhead projectors, sound system and a keyboard instrument. Sound can be played from PC (PowerPoint or other), CD, DVD, mp3 device or cassette. The PCs currently use Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office 2010. If you require any additional equipment, please provide details at registration (the screen will come up at the 'Checkout' stage) or email us.

A note to Mac users. If you are preparing your presentation on a Mac and only bringing it on a portable storage device (USB stick, DVD, CD-ROM, etc.), you may wish to send it to us in advance of the conference to ensure that there are no compatibility issues.

Check-in at Queen's Elms


Check-in time at Queen’s Elms Village is normally after 2 p.m., but early check-in (from 11 a.m.), will be possible on Thursday, 21 July 2011. Delegates can collect their key-cards at reception, from where they will be directed to their buildings/rooms. Reception is open 24 hours so late check-in is possible.

Those who have stated on their registration that they require internet access in their rooms will be provided with cables at check-in. Details of special dietary and access requirements have been forwarded to the Accommodations Office. For more details on accommodation at Queen's Elms, please see the Accommodation section.
