Overview of this session

Open access (OA) is a way to achieve free access to research. OA literature is available in a digital format online, free of charge, and free of most copyright and licensing restrictions.

The research sector is increasingly adopting OA publishing as best practice, and most public funders require that the work they fund is published Open Access.

Academics and researchers have seen OA publication raise the profile of their work, attracting more citations by the research community, but also widening their reach beyond academia, including with policy makers and mainstream media.

The session will provide an overview of open access and its benefits, with the facilitator also explaining the OA publishing routes available to researchers and the support available at Queen's University Belfast.

While the content is tailored to research staff, it is also relevant to others and everyone is welcome to attend.

Details:

The session will be facilitated by Stephen Gorman, Open Research Librarian, Queen's University Belfast.

Sessions will be organised approximately once per month, and future topics will include, narrative CVs, quality outputs and citations etc.

All postdocs and research staff can suggest future topics by contacting the PDC (pdc@qub.ac.uk).
