Transgender Awareness

Event Description

 

3 training sessions on Transgender Equality Awareness for QUB staff will take place in the University on the following dates:

• 15 February 2019, 12.30-2pm (Main Site Tower, 0G/010)
• 16 May, 12.30-2pm (Newark Room, Lanyon Building)
• 24 September 2019, 12.30-2pm (Main Site Tower, 0G/010)

These sessions follow on successful training sessions delivered to staff in 2018, feedback for which was overwhelmingly positive. The sessions will be delivered by Transgender NI, an organisation focused on supporting the human rights of transgender people in Northern Ireland. The sessions will cover the following topics:

• Language & terminology: getting it right
• Cultural competency: names, pronouns and gender
• The law & regulatory framework
• Barriers to trans, non-binary and questioning young people's experience in University
• Good practice for making education inclusive 
• Specific practical guidance and advice for making your workplace better
• Looking to the future for trans issues

We anticipate high demand for places, so you are encouraged to register asap to avoid disappointment. A sandwich lunch will be available for attendees.
