Record, share and collaborate. A new way of thinking for the Centre for Biomedical Sciences Education.
As part of the major upgrade of the dissection laboratory in the Centre for Biomedical Sciences Education, a significant AV installation accompanied the overall build. This revolutionised the teaching methodology and allowed students to be more engaged than ever. Making use of eighteen 65-inch interactive touchscreens, each student group has the opportunity to view, annotate and wirelessly present as needed.
Stage 2 of this upgrade has added the opportunity to capture class content and securely share this with students off campus. This allows content to be recorded in the lab at the press of a button, to be accessed later on via the My Mediasite portal. The opportunities this presents are huge, sharing preparation recordings before a practical class explaining the various processes, providing revision material on procedures before exams, etc.
The lab has generated significant interest in the AV industry right across the UK; Panasonic has completed a case study that is available here and the lab was nominated for best Education project at the 2016 AV Installation awards.
Samantha Taylor, Lecturer (Education) and Anatomist at the Centre commented, “In the past, some students would have tended to come later and leave a bit earlier but I have to say I’m not seeing that, the technology is encouraging the students to be more engaged.”
