The group included the incoming Heads of Mission for countries such as Lebanon, Sudan, Mali, Mexico, Romania, Cambodia, among many others. Queen’s academics and research students, led by Professor John Brewer, Acting Director of the Senator George J Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice, were able to share their expertise on a diverse range of issues related to conflict resolution.

Professors Tony Gallagher and Joanne Hughes offered an overview of how their work on shared education in Northern Ireland has led to the creation of legislation, promoting shared education across all schools in Northern Ireland and is becoming a model for a number of other countries. Dr Gladys Ganiel spoke on the complex and dynamic role played by religion in Northern Ireland politics, an issue of increasing relevance in global politics.

Emeritus Professor Adrian Guelke and postgraduate students Emily Mitchell-Bajic, Ashleigh McFeeters and Paul Gallagher engaged with the visitors during a wide-ranging question-and-answer session.
