Queen's Hosts GCSE Easter Schools

The rest of the campus may have been closed down last week, but scholars from a range of Belfast schools were hard at work in the GCSE Easter Schools in Maths and English in Queen's University's Peter Froggatt Centre.

Easter School classes get under way

The University's Public Engagement team has hosted annual Maths GCSE revision schools, run by Belfast South Community Resource (BSCR) over the Easter period, for several years.  This year, the team were delighted to help expand the School to include GCSE English revision.

Around a hundred pupils from schools in Belfast attended a range of lively classes run by qualified tutors. The classes were aimed at helping students raise their potential marks to a C or above.

"Feedback from last year's participants was excellent" according to BSCR, "with many getting in touch to let us know how this 4-day course helped them to improve their predicated grade".

Queen's University was able to provide funding to supplement that already provided by the Executive Office's Urban Village programme to expand the schools this year.

Welcoming the group on Tuesday morning on behalf of Queen's, Maurice Macartney, of the Public Engagement team, wished the scholars good luck, and added: "I hope to see you back here as students in a couple of years!"
