Centre for Evidence Based Youth Services

Welcome to the Centre for Evidence-Based Youth Services

Commencing in January 2026, the Centre for Evidence-Based Youth Services is an innovative hub for interdisciplinary and international research, training, and practice development, based at the School of Social Sciences, Education and Social Work (SSESW), Queen’s University Belfast, with a focus on children and young people in youth services. In partnership with the Education Authority for Northern Ireland, it will be the first of its kind locally, and one of the very few globally, to place youth services at the heart of academic research and knowledge translation on violence prevention and harm reduction.

Informed by, and with opportunities to inform policy, the Centre focuses on embedding the best available evidence into youth services, generating new evidence through high-quality, co-produced research, and building the capacity of youth service practitioners through advanced training and (continuous) professional development.

Our mission is to ensure that every young person, particularly those living in communities of elevated violence, conflict, social exclusion, and educational disadvantage, benefits from interventions that are rigorously grounded in the best available evidence.
