Strabane's "Dissident" Socialist Republican Identity

An Alternative Vision Amidst the Dominance of Sinn Féin

In this recent article published in New Hibernia Review, former Queen's University MA in Violence, Terrorism and Security student Sebastian Vandermeersch delves into the intricate dynamics of “dissident” Republican identity as exemplified by the Irish Republican Socialist Party (IRSP) and its paramilitary wing, the Irish National Liberation Army (INLA), in Strabane, a rural border town in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Sebastian Vandermeersch

Sebastian Vandermeersch is a researcher for the Centre for Information Resilience, focusing on human rights violations in conflict zones.  He is a graduate of the London School of Economics and Queen's University Belfast, where he completed a master's degree in violence, terrorism, and security and researched conflict transformation in Northern Ireland under Mitchell Institute Fellow: Legacy, Professor Dominic Bryan and Mitchell Institute Director, Professor Richard English.
