The Arts and Peacebuilding research priority seeks to advance interdisciplinary and inter-sectoral work on the arts and peacebuilding through collaborative exploration of the role of the creative arts in building peaceful and just societies globally and historically, in the present and in the future. Building on the Mitchell Institute’s longstanding commitment to researching the connections between the arts (including music, literature, film, theatre, dance, visual arts) and peacebuilding, it aims to:
- Explore the role of the creative arts as a tool for peacebuilding in order to better evaluate, support and promote the arts
- Share learning and resources about the role of the arts in peacebuilding through showcasing research and practice
- Support the development of idea exchange, workshops, conferences and grant applications
- Advance collaboration between researchers, creative practitioners, community groups and policy makers in identifying areas for further work together
- Create partnerships with other stakeholders to develop an international forum for evaluating the role of arts in peacebuilding.
