LINAS Scholars present at The Government Legal Service Annual Northern Ireland Conference 2025
Five Doctoral Scholars from the Leverhulme Interdisciplinary Network on Algorithmic Solutions (LINAS) Doctoral Training Programme took up an invitation to present their work to an audience of more than 150 government lawyers at the Government Legal Service Annual Northern Ireland Conference on 19 November 2025 in the Whitla Hall at Queen’s University Belfast.
James Sweeney reported on his work about the regulatory and legal issues that arise with the growing prevalence of intelligent voice assistants.
Anna Montgomery spoke on her research on domestic abuse in the ’smart home’.
Cecile Harrault reported on her work on algorithmic decision making in the realm of online context moderation.
Fiona Stewart spoke about her project exploring the use of AI enhanced VR in training police officers to better identify and interact with people who have speech, language and/or communication needs.
Habeeb Ramos presented on his research about machine learning algorithms used by traders and the current market abuse law.
This was followed by a presentation on Automated Decision-Making and the Robot Judge from the LINAS Co-Lead Professor John Morison and Dr Tomás McInerney, former LINCS Scholar and now Lecturer in the Law School at QUB.
