We are delighted to announce the second in the new series of the Mitchell Institute  Fireside Chats for this Semester. This event will be held in person in the Peter Froggatt Centre, Room 02/011.

Adrian Guelke is an Emeritus Professor in the School of History, Anthropology, Philosophy and Politics at Queen’s University, Belfast and attached to the Centre for the Study of Ethnic Conflict.  His publications include Politics in Deeply Divided Societies (Polity Press).  He has written books on both Northern Ireland and South Africa.  He is also the author of two works on terrorism:  The New Age of Terrorism and the International Political System and Terrorism and Global Disorder, both published by I. B. Tauris.

Professor Guelke will discuss two cases of deeply divided societies, Northern Ireland and South Africa.  This will be from the perspective of post-conflict management focusing on how they have diverged since their political settlements and why.
