‌Seagate Technology is a global leader in data storage device provision, selling around 250 million hard disk drives (HDD) p.a. (40% of global market). Seagate Technology in Northern Ireland is responsible for 75% of the Company's HDD recording head manufacturing capacity.  Next generation storage devices will require the integration of photonic elements to release Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording. Significant breakthrough in the underpinning science and engineering will be required together with the associated integrative technology to bring these  new components  together into a complete system solution. Seagate foresees significant demand for doctoral level staff with specific training in the topics of CDT.
