As part of Queen's University Belfast's 180 Year Celebrations, we would like to immerse you in the exciting but challenging world of data and the leading role that Queen's are playing internationally in answering some of the biggest global challenges

Date(s)
February 18, 2025
Location
Lanyon Building, Queens University Belfast, University Rd, Belfast BT7 1NN
Time
19:00 - 20:00

We have brought together an unrivalled panel of experts who will highlight some of the challenges they face and how their data driven solutions are making us safer, healthier, more productive and more sustainable, while respecting the need to ensure the privacy of the individual citizen and address the inequalities that our world unfortunately faces.

Expert Panel

"Are we generating too much data"

Roger Woods Interim Pro-Vice-Chancellor, Faculty of Engineering and Physical Sciences, QUB

“(Don’t) Trust the Data”

Aideen Maguire, Director of Administrative Data Research Centre Northern Ireland

"Data Eat Opinion for Lunch"

Mark Lawler Associate Pro-Vice-Chancellor and Professor of Digital Health, QUB

4th panellist to be confirmed

Following their brief interventions, we will go to a ‘fireside chat’ and audience Q&A, where our compere will challenge this distinguished panel to illustrate just how data is improving our lives, but also explain how we need to safeguard against unethical use of data…...so that it does secure our future without dominating our lives.
