This performance includes a selection of exciting new works for piano, commissioned by the pianist, that will be book-marked by Romantic music by Suk and Chopin. A selection of miniatures from William Howard’s 2016 ‘Love Songs’ project will include Daniel Josiah is Sleeping by Simon Mawhinney and Love On The Escalator by Piers Hellawell; Hellawell’s larger-scale set Piani, Latebre (Layers, Hiding Places) was written for William Howard in 2009. The concert ends with Chopin’s much-loved Ballade no 1 op.23.

Pianist William Howard has enjoyed a career that has taken him to over 40 different countries, giving solo recitals, concerto performances, guest appearances with chamber ensembles and instrumentalists. In 1983 he founded the Schubert Ensemble, with which he performed for 35 years; it gave its final concert in 2018.
