For their “Transsonic Music” project, Nicola Hein and Viola Yip are curious about the possibilities of light as an expanded musical material. They research and create performances, improvising between lights and sounds as equally important and yet dialectical musical materials. By bridging the vibrations of light and sound, they like to explore our musical experience between the sound and the unsound.

Nicola Hein and Viola Yip form an experimental duo that explores the ontology of sound through performances and installations. They have been commissioned by Hong Kong New Music Ensemble, as well as presented in Internationales Musikinstitut Darmstadt, ON - Neue Musik Köln, Willows Nest, West Germany and Kék-ló in Berlin.
