Performance: Colin Reid and Friends in Concert

A concert of contemporary original instrumental music composed by Colin between 1999 and 2022, rearranged for the debut performance of this exciting new ensemble.

Colin Reid is a guitarist from Belfast. He’s made four studio albums of original acoustic music, toured a fair bit and enjoyed playing with artists like Bert Jansch and Eddi Reader. Recent projects include an adaptation of Flann O’Brien’s The Third Policeman featuring Dublin actor Phelim Drew, and an original electric group The Tony Strickland Quartet. Colin is delighted to be bringing this new ensemble to the Harty Room.

Richard Mawhinney is a saxophonist/ woodwind player from Belfast. His experience is primarily in jazz and improvised music, including numerous UK and international tours with the Brian Irvine Ensemble. Also involved recently in 50th anniversary performances of the Astral Weeks and Let It Be albums.

David McCann has worked with many of the U.K. and Ireland’s leading orchestras, including the Hallé Orchestra, the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, Manchester Camerata, the Ulster Orchestra, the RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Ireland’s National Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of Opera North and Northern Ireland Opera.

Thomas Alford is a session bass player who lives in Belfast. He has been involved with a wide number of companies including Belfast ensemble, Belfast Pops Orchestra, St Agnes Choral Society, North West Opera, and has performed internationally with groups such as Toccata Musical Productions.

Belfast-based drummer/composer Conor McAuley works in the seams of free improvisation, alt post-punk music, Irish traditional music, and human-computer interaction. Drawing inspiration from elements of consciousness and experience, cognitive science and enactivism, he is currently undertaking a practice led PhD at Queen’s University, Belfast, titled ‘Musical Pathways: Exploring bodily movement in improvised drumming’.
