Current SARC PhD Researcher Paddy McKeown releases album which was recorded in the Sonic Lab, SARC

28 March, 2025

Many Kinds of Critters was a live performance in the Sonic Arts Research Centre, Belfast, that explored to what extent can the rhythmic, melodic, and textural possibilities of Irish Traditional Guitar be expanded upon. It is an attempt in moving towards creating dense sound worlds, all stemming from one acoustic instrument. Using feedback loop processes and spatialised intricacy of electronic textures, the tunes throughout the recording deconstruct and augment themselves in new textures and exploratory patterns creating entirely new sound worlds – all stemming from the tune that was initially departed from.”

It featured on this month’s episode of Fire Draw Near, a monthly podcast and radio show which investigates Irish traditional music and song in all of its myriad forms.
