Plant-Based Diets and Flavonoids: A Path to Sustained Health and Well-Being.

Join Dr Alysha Thompson as she discusses the role of plant-based diets and flavonoids in promoting health and preventing major chronic diseases. Drawing on her expertise in nutritional epidemiology, Alysha will explore how components of plant-based diets, particularly bioactive compounds like flavonoids, contribute to disease prevention and emerging research into their potential influence on psychological well-being.

Her talk will touch on the complexities of dietary habits and well-being, highlighting the interplay between nutrition and overall resilience. With insights from her past and current research, Alysha will share practical strategies for incorporating nutritious, sustainable dietary choices into daily life, providing valuable takeaways for postgraduate students navigating the challenges of academia.

Dr Alysha Thompson is a Research Fellow at the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems within the Institute for Global Food Security at Queen’s University Belfast. She is a qualified nutritionist and holds an MSci degree in Food Science and Nutrition from Queen’s University Belfast. She recently completed her PhD in Nutritional Epidemiology, where her research focused on plant-based diets and their role in chronic disease risk. Alysha’s work emphasises the importance of diet quality, particularly the consumption of bioactive compounds like flavonoids, and their contributions to health outcomes. Her research utilises large epidemiological datasets, such as the UK Biobank, to investigate dietary patterns and their impacts on both physical and mental health, offering robust evidence for population-level dietary recommendations.
