  • Biostatistics and Bioinformatics

  • Advanced Chemical Analysis
  • Materials Science and Engineering

Delivered in collaboration between Queen's Careers, Employability and Skills Service and the Thomas J. Moran Graduate School, this programme consists of two parts detailed below. Please check your QUB email inbox for updates.

Part 1: Self-Directed Online Learning

All DfE funded PGCert students will be given access to an online employability module on Canvas, which can be completed in your own time.

This module includes:

  • Useful links for job searching
  • Help with CVs, interviews and other recruitment and selection methods
  • An introduction to employability skills including Commercial Awareness, Initiative, Innovation and Creativity and Career Management Skills

Part 2: Taught Component

Students will also have the option to apply for a place on a taught component which will be delivered live via Microsoft Teams. Applicants must choose one of three options which will focus on their professional development.

All three options will consist of interactive workshops which will encourage discussion and participation, individual exercises and group work. Please note that these taught components will not be recorded and therefore you must be available to attend all of the days for your selected option.

Master Your Leadership

Develop and enhance your personal skills and grow your networks in a rapidly changing world.

This option, through active exploration of leadership concepts, promotes collaboration and inspires behavioural change, self-motivation and influence of others to be their 'best self'. Learn about, experience and apply personal leadership skills in a simulated reality of 'work' that builds confidence, empathy, communication and team-working skills and competences. You will complete the Kouzes and Posner 360° Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI) as a framework for helping you understand what behaviours are required to become an Exemplary Leader.

During the programme you will work in virtual teams to research, create and develop solutions and ideas based on a 'real world' challenge set by an employer. Working together, your team will present these ideas and recommendations to the employer and a panel of experts.

Please note that this component is a verified route for Graduate Plus.

Check out MyFuture for upcoming dates and to register.

Master Your Future Success

Get ready today for tomorrow's job market.

By choosing this option, you will have the opportunity to build on your employability skills. We’ll cover what you need to consider when being interviewed virtually, and how to make a good impression through a screen. You’ll develop your online presence through LinkedIn and explore a range of common competency-based questions that appear on application forms and in job interviews.

You’ll also have the opportunity to complete the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) questionnaire, which is used to determine differing strengths and types of personalities. Being aware of your personal preferences is one step towards understanding yourself better and improving your relationships with others at work.

Please note that this component is a verified route for Graduate Plus.

Check out MyFuture for upcoming dates and to register.

Practices of Entrepreneurship

Develop entrepreneurial skills, self-awareness and agility in the world we live in today. These are key skills that are required across whatever career pathway you may choose.

Benefit from a series of 5 workshops that support entrepreneurial education, using practice-based approach as a learning model to support entrepreneurial skills development. Develop and strengthen your entrepreneurial ability to create and exploit opportunities in this uncertain world, and use the Foursight Self-Assessment Tool to figure out where you light up in the innovation process.

Across these half day workshops, you'll be introduced to key tools that will support you in developing the 5 key practices of entrepreneurship education: Play, Empathy, Creation, Experimentation and Reflection.

Please note that this component is an approved activity under the combined route for Graduate Plus.

Check out MyFuture for upcoming dates and to register.

Please note that in the online application form below, you will be asked to rank your first, second and third choice of taught component. We encourage you to apply as early as possible as unfortunately, depending on the number of applications we receive, we cannot guarantee that all applicants will receive a place based on their first choice. Choices will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

Please note there are a limited number of spaces left on this programme so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible.
