The postgraduate development programme is based on the requirements of both the Postgraduate Researcher Development Statement and Researcher Development Framework. These have been created by Vitae, an organisation that exists to support the professional and personal development of doctoral researchers and research staff in higher education institutions and research institutes. They have been endorsed by the QAA and Research Councils UK.
The programme offers students a comprehensive range of training courses, 1-2-1 support and skills development opportunities and is coordinated by the Training and Development and Employment and Enterprise Teams based in The Graduate School. The Postgraduate Development Programme exists to support research students in the development of research skills and to enhance their employability through career and personal development.
The Postgraduate Development Programme aims to support Postgraduate Research Students in developing a range of professional skills to successfully complete their research and increase their employability.
How to book and record your training
All Graduate School training events are bookable through the University’s MyFuture platform. Once you have logged in to MyFuture, go to Events, and in the search bar enter 'GS' to search all Graduate School training and events.
Any training you have booked through MyFuture and have attended will be automatically added to your training record. Should you require this to be completed for a particular deadline, for example if you are preparing for differentiation or APR, please contact us at pg.skills@qub.ac.uk to discuss your requirements.
Research students can also record other instances of training and development on their training plan. Details on how to do this and more information on recording your training can be found HERE.
Preparing you for an unknown future
We encourage our students to have the ability, the confidence and the intellectual flexibility to face any challenge.
We are a community of learning and research but also a hothouse for producing future leaders and innovators in a multitude of sectors, from industry, academia and policy, to the creative, charity and commercial sectors.
We nurture disruptive thinking through the transdisciplinary ethos that underpins everything we do, but this is complemented by focused programmes providing you with everything from leadership skills, careers advice, and access to employers and alumni, to professional qualifications and university-accredited programmes that mark your engagement in activity beyond your Master’s or PhD.
