Veterans Benefits

  • Post 9/11 GI Bill

Queen's University Belfast is approved to process Veterans Affairs Benefits. Programmes currently approved by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs can be viewed on the VA website here and we can seek approval for additional programmes if required. Programmes are approved for in-residence training only.

    Application process

Students must first apply online at https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/apply.asp. If you are determined to be eligible for VA benefits, you must forward a copy of your Certificate of Eligibility to usloans@qub.ac.uk along with details of your programme of study at Queen's. We will then apply for programme approval if your programme is not already approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.

Once we have received confirmation from the VA that your programme has been approved we then confirm your enrolment details on the VA’s Web-based system ready for certifying enrolment. When you have completed enrolment and registration at Queen's we will complete and submit the enrolment certificate. After the VA has processed your enrolment information they will send your tuition and fees payment to Queen’s at the beginning of each semester, therefore your tuition will be paid in two or three parts.

    Tuition fee payments

The VA will send a tuition electronically to Queen’s at the start of each semester and the Student Finance Office will convert the funds to GBP and make a payment towards your tuition. If you log into your Qsis Student Account at https://qsis.qub.ac.uk/ you can keep track of the tuition payments.

When the exchange rate results in a shortfall or surplus on your account the Student Finance Office will contact you to arrange a payment or refund. The VA will not make any further payments if there is a shortfall and they expect the student to pay the outstanding amount.

Students in receipt of VA benefits will not be penalised or expected to borrow additional funds if VA tuition payments are delayed. In addition, students can attend a programme from the date they provide a certificate of eligibility until 90 days after the institution has certified tuition and fees.
