Queen's University Students win second place in Cyber Competition

Talk Data to Me Team

Many congratulations to the Talk Data to Me team, a group of first year LINCS (Leverhulme Interdisciplinary Network on Cybersecurity and Society) doctoral scholars who have finished second place at the Atlantic 9/12 UK Cyber Competition, 18 – 19 February 2020 in the BT Tower in London. The team competed over two days in a fictional cyberattack.

LINCS brings together The Senator George J. Mitchell Institute for Global Peace, Security and Justice and the Centre for Secure Information Technologies (CSIT) to develop a distinctive cohort of doctoral students working across the boundaries of their disciplines.

The team from Queen's narrowly missed first place in this prestigious competition, being pipped at the post by a team from Oxford University. Their prize is a two-week placement with the cyber-security team at Beazley.

The team leader, Cian Luddy, commented that dealing with a live cyberattack was challenging and dramatic.  The team worked extremely well together, combining their knowledge and skills from different disciplines to achieve this success.

Included in the photo, from left to right are: Professor Cathal McCall (LINCS Programme Coordinator), Htaik Win (Law), Eamonn Brogan (EEECS), Cian Luddy (HAPP) and Matt O’Neill (HAPP, coach for the team)
