EPSRC CDT National Twitter #CDTphotocomp led by CDT PIADS

In partnership with EPSRC/MRC CDT OPTIMA

EPSRC CDT PIADS decided to create a light-hearted competition to help raise awareness of science and innovation and stimulate engagement across the CDT portfolio. The competition is open to all current EPSRC CDTs. The competition featured three categories, with students posting photos of innovative and funny aspects of their research, as well as a selfie of themselves at work.

#CDTinnovation celebrating the groundbreaking work carried out by PhD students at CDTs across the country.

#CDTfunny celebrating the occasionally humourous side of PhD research and its results.

#CDTselfie celebrating the people behind the great research carried out at CDTs: the PhD students themselves.

2018 Competition

Following on from the success of the CDT Twitter photo competition in 2017, we are pleased to announce the initiative for the second year. To celebrate and encourage engagement between all EPSRC CDTs, @CDT_PIADS and EPSRC/MRC @cdt_optima warmly invite all CDT students & staff to enter the competition by uploading photo entries within a 48-hour time window between 10:00 GMT Friday 27 April - 10:00 GMT Sunday 29 April 2018. Enter the competition as many times as you like under the three themes: #CDTinnovation #CDTselfie #CDTfunny. Photo submissions should be Tweeted to @cdt_plural with the theme hashtag. This year's sponsors are FindAPhd, Seagate Technology and BIG STEM Communicators Network.

  • FindAPhD ‘OVERALL WINNER’  £100 Amazon voucher!
  • 1st prize PER theme: £25 Amazon Voucher + Seagate External Hard Drive + BIG Annual Membership
  • 2nd prize PER theme: £25 Amazon Voucher+ Seagate External Hard Drive

2017 Competition

The inaugural competition was carried out to celebrate British Science Week 2017 and was sponsored by FindAPhDSeagate Technology and Tomocube. A wide range of PhD students took part by submitting photos that expressed different aspects of their research. The best picture in each category won a prize of £50 plus a 1TB Seagate external hard drive. The runner-up in each category won a 1TB Seagate external hard drive. FindAPhD also selected one overall winner to receive an extra £100 prize.
