NI Cyber Security Snapshot 2025 Launched at CSIT

30 January, 2026

Northern Ireland’s latest Cyber Security Snapshot has been launched, providing an updated picture of the region’s cyber ecosystem, its strengths, and the challenges shaping growth to 2030.

The latest edition of the Northern Ireland Cyber Security Snapshot was officially released on Thursday 29 January 2026. At the NICyber Breakfast, Sam Donaldson (Perspective Economics) presented the key findings from the snapshot, following CSIT’s commissioning of Perspective Economics to produce this year’s report. Attendees also heard from Matt Holland (Kainos) on current industry trends.

Key Findings

Northern Ireland’s cyber security sector continues to be a major economic contributor, supporting approximately 2,778 roles and generating more than £258m in direct GVA. While employment growth has slowed in line with global trends, productivity remains strong, with average advertised salaries exceeding £53,000.

The report highlights reduced recruitment activity and a decline in foreign direct investment since 2021, meaning previous ambitions to reach 5,000 cyber security roles by 2030 will be challenging.  However, the Snapshot emphasises the region’s strong foundations in research excellence, technical expertise and emerging domains such as AI security, hardware security, operational technology and post-quantum cryptography.

Research and Collaboration

CSIT, the UK’s Innovation and Knowledge Centre for cyber security, continues to play a central role in supporting the cyber ecosystem. In 2023, CSIT secured £18.9m in investment to strengthen research, skills development and industry collaboration through initiatives such as the Cyber-AI Hub.

Looking Ahead

The Snapshot outlines recommendations focused on stimulating local demand, supporting indigenous startups, investing in emerging technologies and sustaining long-term research and skills funding. Continued collaboration across industry, academia and government will be key to maintaining Northern Ireland’s position as a leading international cyber security hub.
