"Popularism, Sexual Orientation Discrimination, and the European Convention on Human Rights"
with
Professor Paul Johnson

Supported by
QUB Human Rights Centre

Professor Paul Johnson is a leading expert on the the relationship between law, human rights and sexual orientation. His books include “Homosexuality and the European Court of Human Rights” (Routledge 2014) and "Going to Strasbourg: An Oral History of Sexual Orientation Discrimination and the European Convention on Human Rights” (Oxford University Press 2016). For a fuller sense of Professor Johnson’s expertise, readers can consult this list of recent publications or subscribe to his regularly updated ECHR Sexual Orientation Blog.

Lawyers with Pride is a group of solicitors, barristers, trainees/pupils, legal academics and law students who wish to show their support for the LGBT+ community in Northern Ireland. The group is made up of members of the LGBT+ community and allies. It is an inclusive group open to all lawyers who would like to show their support for Pride and the LGBT+ community in Northern Ireland.

Lawyers with Pride first assembled to participate in the Belfast Pride parade in 2016, just three years ago. The year before last, the group built on that success by hosting Lord Kerr of Tonaghmore, of the UK Supreme Court, to deliver the first in this annual lecture series on the intersections between law, the LGBT+ community, and Northern Ireland. Last year, Master Victoria McCloud delivered the second lecture. The group is delighted that Professor Johnson has agreed to take this remarkably successful lecture series into its third year.
