AN INTERACTIVE SYMPOSIUM WHICH INCLUDES THE LAUNCH OF THE ESRC FUNDED POLICY REPORT 'BREAST CANCER MARKETING: WELCOMING AN ERA OF MORE DIVERSE CAMPAIGNS'.

ESRC funded research fellow, Dr Clare Patton of the Health and Human Rights Unit, School of Law, QUB will launch the policy report based on her twelve-month study into the effects of breast cancer cause-related campaigns on the lived experience of those with breast cancer.

Clare travelled the UK to interview twenty-five women living with a breast cancer diagnosis in the past five-years, in depth, about their views of and experiences with breast cancer cause-marketing campaigns and the effect that such campaigns have/had on their experience with the disease. The policy report applies Clare's previous research in this area (her PhD topic) to the new data to present a set of recommendations that those engaging with breast cancer cause-marketing and fundraising can use to develop campaigns which are inclusive, balanced, and will eventually reduce the divisive opinions often held on breast cancer campaigns.

The agenda for the day will be released in due course but includes a presentation of the data from Clare, a panel session including talks from various campaign stakeholders (including some of the women involved in the study), the official launch of the report, afternoon roundtable discussions session involving many stakeholders involved in breast cancer cause-marketing campaigns and the symposium closes with a wine reception and buffet.

While tickets to the symposium are free, registration is necessary for catering and seating purposes. Babes in arms are welcome at this event. Toddlers and older children are also most welcome but as the event takes place in an upstairs room there may be limited space for children to roam freely and play. A breakfast of tea/coffee/scones and a buffet lunch is provided to all guests. Bottled water will not be provided for environmental reasons but guests are welcome to bring water bottles and make use of the drinking water available on campus.
