Future Ready Law

At Queen's University Belfast School of Law, we are committed to preparing our students for dynamic and fulfilling legal careers. On 13th March 2025, our Employability and Placement Team hosted ‘Breaking into Law: Applications, Insights and Career Conversations’. This inspiring event aimed to empower the careers of participating students, equipping them with insights, skills and the connections needed to thrive in the legal profession.

A Platform for Aspiration and Opportunity

This flagship event, in March 2025, brought together over 70 students for an evening of empowerment and career exploration. A distinguished panel of Queen's Law alumni and leading professionals shared their journeys and expertise, offering a window into the diverse pathways available in law. Panellists included a Senior Principal Legal Officer from the Public Prosecution Service and a Solicitor from a leading law firm, each providing unique perspectives on building successful legal careers. We are grateful for the input from Owen Beattie, Rachel Scroggie, Kerri Bradley, Emma Doherty, Taryn Graham, Laura Jennings, Shannon Gawley, and the stewardship of  Deirdre Timoney. From navigating the Bar to influencing policy and excelling in private practice, the panel discussion covered critical topics such as resilience, adaptability, and seizing opportunities in a competitive field. Students gained practical advice on crafting their career paths, leveraging their Queen's education, and standing out in the job market.

Networking and Real-World Connections

Beyond the panel, the event offered invaluable networking opportunities. Attendees connected with panellists, legal professionals and peers over refreshments, fostering relationships that could shape their future careers. The vibrant atmosphere underscored the School of Law's commitment to bridging the gap between academia and industry.

Feedback from students was overwhelmingly positive, with many describing the event as “motivational" and a "game-changer” for their career planning. The event highlighted the strength of the Queen's Law community and the power of alumni engagement in inspiring the next generation of legal professionals.
