Dr Blanaid Hicks

Blanaid is currently the Vice-Chancellor’s Fellow, and a Cancer Research UK Fellow, working in the field of cancer epidemiology in the Centre of Public Health, in the School of Medicine, Dentistry and Biomedical Science in Queen’s. She graduated with her degree in Biomedical Sciences in 2012, and then continued her studies in the Centre for Public Health in the School of Medicine to gain her PhD. She has recently returned to QUB to take her current position after two years in a post-doctoral position in a renowned research group in McGill University, Canada.

‘My undergraduate studies in Biomedical Science gave me a background in a broad range of exciting scientific areas- everything from genetics and cell biology to medical statistics, providing me with the platform I needed to progress into my PhD studies in cancer epidemiology. I can honestly say I thoroughly enjoyed every moment.’

Blanaid Hicks, BSc (Hons.) Biomedical Sciences Graduate, 2012
