ECIT Researcher wins The Early Career Award from the European Association for Signal Processing
Dr Michalis Matthaiou, a Reader (equivalent to Associate Professor) in Multiple-Antenna Systems at the Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT) at Queen’s University Belfast, is the winner of the 2019 Early Career Award from the European Association for Signal Processing (EURASIP)
This prestigious prize is awarded annually to an outstanding researcher and engineer working within the technical scope of EURASIP at an early or mid-stage of their career. The selected recipient’s current work shows not only significant scientific achievements but also high potential to advance scientific knowledge through novel, timely and significant endeavours. This award targets researchers who under forty years old.
This year, Dr Matthaiou, who is based at the Centre for Wireless Innovation (CWI) at ECIT, has been recognised for his significant contributions to signal processing for multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) and massive MIMO systems.
Dr Matthaiou commented: “Receiving such a prestigious award is the best recognition for a career that spans nearly 15 years in the field of wireless communications and is a result of joint work with my students, colleagues and collaborators around the world. The fantastic research environment here at CWI and ECIT is also a positive catalyst that made this happen.”
The awards ceremony will take place during the EUSIPCO conference in Spain in September.
