Freedom of Information Act 2000 

The Freedom of Information Act 2000 gives you the right to request recorded information held by the University, for example records of meetings, expenditure and research.

Queen's University Belfast is subject to the Freedom of Information Act and, as such, is committed to ensuring that information held by the University is made available to the public whenever it is possible and/or appropriate to do so within its terms.

Environmental Information Regulations 2004

The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 give you the right to request environmental information held by the University, for example information on emissions and/or energy use.

 

Requests for Information 

Under Freedom of Information, members of the public are entitled to request, in writing, information that is held by the University and, subject to certain exemptions, to have that information supplied to them within 20 working days.  

Requests for information under the Environmental Information Regulations may be made verbally, however, in order to process your request as effectively and efficiently as possible we recommend these are also provided in writing.

To make a request contact the Information Compliance Unit providing your full name, contact details, and describe in as much detail as you can the information you would like.  Please note that a full name is required for a request to be valid.

Is the information you are seeking already available?

The University proactively publishes a wealth of information on our website.  Before making a request, save time by checking if the information is already available by using the search function on our website.

 

Published information

The Freedom of Information Act also requires the University to make certain types of information publicly available through our "Publication Scheme".  In most cases this information is accessible on our website.  If you would prefer not to access the information via the internet, or have an accessability requirement, please contact the Information Compliance Unit.

 

Information about yourself

Data Protection legislation gives you the right to request the information the University holds about you - this is referred to as a subject access request.  To find out more about how to make a subject access request please check our our dedicated page here.
