Researcher at the Centre for Wireless Innovation awarded “Best Student Paper”
Sarah Clendinning, a postgraduate research student at the Centre for Wireless Innovation (CWI) based at the Institute of Electronics, Communications and Information Technology (ECIT), Queen’s University Belfast, was awarded first prize in the IET Antennas and Propagation Network 'Best Student Paper' at the Loughborough Antennas and Propagation Conference (LAPC 2018).
LAPC is a platform that showcases the very latest technical advances and academic research in this vast field.
Sarah was presented the “Best Student Paper” award at the event recognising her work during her 1st year of PhD.
The paper is entitled: “Equivalent Circuit Model for Linear to Circular Polarisation Converters Based on Bandpass Freestanding FSS Screens” and was produced alongside co-authors Dr Robert Cahill, Dr Dmitry Zelenchuk and Prof Vince Fusco.
Sarah’s work has made a significant contribution to the understanding of the electromagnetic behaviour and design of a resonant Frequency Selective Surface (FSS) which generates circular waves from an incident linear wave and is the main mode of wave propagation from spacecraft to Earth ground stations.
Sarah commented: “I am honoured to have received this award at LAPC 2018. My success would not have been possible without the support of my supervisors Robert, Dmitry and Vince to whom I am extremely grateful. Participating in LAPC was an amazing experience and provided me with a fantastic opportunity to meet leading experts and fellow peers within my field.”
